About Michele Milovina M.D., FACOG

While growing up on the island of Maui, Dr. Milovina knew at a very young age that she wanted to pursue a career in women’s health. After attending medical school at the University of Hawaii and graduating at the top of her class with honors, she completed her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the world-renowned Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She established her private practice in Beverly Hills in 2002 and in 2009, opened a new, state of the art office, offering patients an array of procedures in a safe and comfortable environment. She and her staff work together closely to provide patients with compassion, respect and privacy. Over the years, Dr. Milovina has developed a special interest in caring for patients with high-risk pregnancies as well as caring for adolescents who are transitioning to adulthood.

Many of her patients have been with her since the start of her practice and it is not uncommon for Dr. Milovina to care for multiple generations within a family. Dr. Milovina is an active member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She believes in the importance of maintaining established skills while continuing to explore the literature and incorporate new and exciting medical breakthroughs into her practice. Dr. Milovina is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and maintains her certification annually through a rigorous Maintenance of Certification process set forth by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Most importantly, she is the mother of two amazing daughters, Leila and Ava. They enjoy spending time together playing tennis, hiking and traveling.

Expecting 411

Now in it’s 4th edition

After being in private practice for many years and identifying the need for an up-to-date, concise, educational book available to expecting mothers, Dr. Milovina (previously Dr. Hakakha) decided to co-author Expecting 411: Clear Answers & Smart Advice for Your Pregnancy.

This book is the first pregnancy book written by two physicians (an OBGYN and a pediatrician) who are also mothers. The result is a down-to-earth, “no paranoia” guide through pregnancy that offers mothers-to-be the most current medical information delivered in a girlfriend-to-girlfriend tone.

Expecting 411 is available at Barnes & Noble, Babies R Us and Amazon.com.

Medical Mission
Volunteer Work

Since 2018, Dr. Milovina has gone on an annual medical mission to rural Guatemala. This mission is part of Helps International, where a multi-speciality group of physicians, nurses, scrub techs and volunteers head to remote villages in rural Guatemala to perform life saving surgeries on the indigenous population, and it is extremely dear to her heart. Helps International is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been in existence since 1984. Since 2002, it has been sending medical teams from LA to Guatemala. The team is comprised of OBGYNs, anesthesiologists, general and pediatric surgeons, plastic surgeons, ENTs, dentists, and family practice doctors, as well as nurses, translators and volunteers. In 2024, the team completed 123 surgeries in just 4 1/12 days. The medical care that we all take for granted at home in the United States is not easily accessed by these wonderful people. Some come from very far away, traveling by bus when they can afford it and by foot when they have no financial resources. They often wait in line for 2-3 days to see us and are the most grateful people.

Additionally, over the last 6 years, Dr. Milovina and her husband, Dr. Michael Sanchez, an anesthesiologist, have created a midwife training course to help educate and give supplies to as many lay midwives as possible. Maternal mortality in Guatemala is far too high and too many women die annually from postpartum hemorrhage and preeclampsia, which are very treatable conditions with the right supplies and education.
